Festival 150 Celebrates BC150 with Music

While traveling around the world, Roy Yen realized that if he was given the opportunity to live anywhere he wished, he would choose Vancouver.

Now that he’s back in the city where he was born and raised, he’s sharing his passion for B.C. with the rest of the province. Yen is working with Festival 150 to help celebrate BC150.

“We’re lucky to live here,” said Yen. “Every opportunity we have to celebrate in a large, public way is a great reminder for all of us.”

Festival 150 is a free, family-oriented celebration that will take place from Aug. 1-4 in Victoria’s Inner Harbour. It will feature a BC Day concert on the lawn of the B.C. Parliament Buildings on Aug. 4.

Five-time Juno Award winner Leslie Feist will join platinum recording artist Sarah McLachlan at the concert, which will be kicked off with a performance by Dal Richards.

Since he was a little boy, Chef Dez has had one passion in his life: cooking. He found peeling potatoes more exciting than playing football.

Today Chef Dez is a professional cook, food columnist and culinary instructor based in Mission, and he recently created a salad recipe to help commemorate BC150.

“Food is amazing. It brings people together and gives them a chance to celebrate life.”

Chef Dez will perform 16 cooking shows at the Abbotsford Agrifair, which is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Crown Colony of British Columbia this year. The fair runs from July 31 to Aug. 4 at the Abbotsford Exhibition Park.

“It will be my fifth appearance at the Agrifair,” said Chef Dez. “It’s getting better every year, and I’m looking forward to being part of it again.”
